Philosophy and Focus
As we go about the business of operating Blue Plum Inn, our intention is to care for you and for the earth with gentleness and respect.
Our use of natural resources is minimized to the best of our abilities.
Wherever possible, we present to you that which is nature based, local, organic, and sustainably produced.
The house was built over 100 years ago. Our furnishings are primarily vintage and some of them are heritage pieces. The appliances are energy efficient models. We compost and make every effort to reduce, reuse, and recycle.
The majority of our guests get around without using cars. Our city has an expansive public transit system, a model system as far as cities go on the continent. When you want a bicycle, you can rent one, and when you need to use that vehicle, there is a Zipcar in addition to the traditional rental car companies. You can walk or take public transit to conventions, festivals, museums, gardens and events.
We intend our practice to maximize your destination experience and to foster your enjoyment of the unique qualities of this place, while, at the same time, allowing you to join us in being stewards of all this that we hold precious and worthy of preservation.
Partnerships and Programs
Mentioned here are a few of the very inspiring initiatives that have taken shape in our region. We want you to be able to find out what our hometown heroes do every and enjoy the spoils of their efforts.
It has been an honor for us to work with other members of the Oregon Bed & Breakfast Guild in pioneering the Guild’s Green Program, which is among the first statewide innkeeper programs established in the United States.
The Oregon Bed & Breakfast Guild Green Program is recognized by Travel Portland and is included among the Sustainbility Certification Listings on the Travel Portland website.
Guests May Purchase Mini-Green Tags
to Offset Carbon Emissions
It is through Sustainable Travel International that we can offer our guests the opportunity to purchase Mini-Green Tags. Each $1.00 tag represents 24-kilowatt hours of wind energy and prevents 33.6 pounds of greenhouse gas emissions. Let us know at check in if you are interested in participating in this Mini-Green Tag program.
Sustainable Travel International has served as a mentor organization and supporter of the Oregon Bed & Breakfast Guild Green Program.
As of January 19, 2010, the Central Cascades Geotourism MapGuide has been launched, and you can view the completed online MapGuide and website. This is a National Geographic quality map as well as an interactive website to encourage travel that celebrates and sustains what is most distinctive about the Central Cascades region of the Northwest. The two-sided map and website includes entries about sites, events and experiences unique to our region. As a member of the Green Task Force for the Oregon Bed & Breakfast Guild, it has been our privilege to act as innkeeper representatives on the Mapping Project Stewardship Council and as proud supporters of the project.
